Art Exhibition and Awards.

I went to the opening Ceremony last night. My friend and I went and 'swanned' around looking at all the wonderful things people had made. There was a great sculptural piece called 'Superhero" that I really liked. It was a lamp made out of mainly wire. My piece sold!!! It's really exciting and nice that someone wanted to buy something I've made :) I realise now that I underpriced it, but pricing art is hard - I've heard lots of people say. However, I would have rather someone bought and enjoy it, than it comes home and I have it kickin' around the house until my exhibition. So next time I won't short change myself. More creating to do!!!

Tree of Life

Well, here we are; all finished. It didn't feel quite done, so I added a few things before dropping it off yesterday at the Melville Civic Centre. It will be judged in the textile category on Friday. How exciting! I'll be sad to see it go...If it goes.

No pictures yet, because I haven't managed to scam a camera to use. Tried James' mobile camera...ugggh. I have been playing around with making mouldings off stamps using water soluble paper. The results were ok, but nowhere near as detailed as I'd hoped. Now I'm looking again at the water soluble I bought from Spotlight...I don't think its soluble...Might have something to do with the results, just slightly. I Also ordered some foam stamps over the net $10 for the set!! *cheers* They must have arrived yesterday and were sitting in the rain all night because the postie delivered it to a door we never use. So after brushing the snail and mud off the package I am now ready to have a play! I am going to try using them for the mouldings but use vilene 541 instead. Wish me luck! Pictures from playing in Paintshop: the green one I have printed onto frabric and worked with machine embroidery...will have to upload that one too...

Craft Fair

Went to the Craft Fair yesterday. Didn't seem to be as many stalls as last year, or as at the show at the Convention Centre. But this was good because you didn't have to worry about missing anything. Also there weren't a zillion people walking on you. Went to a couple of great workshops; one with Chris Aitkins, one with Jacinta Leishman. So I am inspired today. :) I have all but finished my piece for the Art Comp, and was playing with my Twinkles which are very exciting after doing Jacinta's class. I have painted a whole pile of blank tags that I had in my draw, finished off the two projects I started at the fair, and now I am onto repainting some sections of a journal I decorated. I had previously painted it, and the red underneath soaked through a layer of gesso and 2 layers of paint!! Try again... I'll upload a pic of my finished tag book asap.

Almost Happy Friday

As I've almost finished my Art work for the competition, I've had a little chance to play. Here are twoof my mini studies in Pink that I finished today. I completed 4 back in April with the intention of doing 8. Almost there... Its quite fun to limit your self to two colours and then play. It had been a good learning experience for me and also an excercise in finding balance and rhythm in a piece.
Colour isn't 100% cos I scanned these instead of photographing them. Picasa, one of the photo editing tools I use isn't always 100 on auto-colouring, but very quick and easy...and free to download! Yeah!

The times, they are a changin'

We moved our study/studio around on the weekend which was a bit painful but also exciting. My desk now faces the window so I get the light rather than having my back to it. When the roses start flowering again I'll have a wonderful view. The scary thing was having to find a home for everything that moved. I have a little less space because I can't just put everything on my desk and push it against the wall because it will fall down onto the window sill. I threw out 3 bags of stuff. HEAPS of paper that I've had for 15 years - and I'm only 23! So I sorted through and recycled most of the ratty stuff that had been partially used. Plus a pile of things that I never got round to using and have since found a better alternative. Maybe a pic later - I don't have a digicam at the moment, but should get around to buying one.
