Commission

I've plucked up the courage and started sewing things down on this piece. Sometimes its hard to get started on the actual sewing. But now I'm enjoying it. Done a fair bit more than what's in the picture now. Wore my jacket out in public last night and it was good I got some nice comments about it. It's passed the test!! Off to the embroiderers' Guild this morning for our monthly group day. I am doing a demo on making felt balls and the joys of melting acrylic felt. Wizzed up some postcards last night to melt! It's been really cold here. Just has the winter solstice, so at least we've passed the halfway mark with it getting dark so early. If we weren't still trying to walk around the house in nothing, or next to, we'd be fine. Now it becomes a brisk run from the bathroom/bedroom/clothes room. We just end up sitting on the couch with a doona because it is to cold to move around.

Silk painting, felting and a JACKET!!

Here we are with the collar in a different position. Works well like this without being trimmed. I'll have to make sure that however I trim it, it remains versatile.
I painted these outside in the cold yesterday. They are for a series of pieces I want to start working on soon. I was such a good girl, I even did samples first!
This will be the substrate for another piece.
As will this. Wish I hadn't cut the bottom now. But can't do anything about it now. Will have to think about a create solution. Creative thank yous will be one the way to Carol TT and Stitchety Grub. soon. :) Once they are made.

Felting Retreat

I went to a felt retreat on the weekend and made myself a jacket!! Here is the process...it took me two days. : But I am very happy with it now!! This first pic is less than half the wool tops laid out.
In this picture you can see how long the sleeves are to allow for shrinkage... That is one in the foreground dangling to the ground.
Here it is. The resist has been cut out and it is ready to be fulled.
Here it is!!! Fulled and still wet. oh yes. It is still drying, then I will trim the cuffs so they are even and trim the collar. It is almost ready to be worn with a big button or pin pin. I will make a brooch out of the cut offs.
Blogger will only let me upload 4 pics at a time so here is another one with the collar in a different position.....

Finished stuff!

I have been agonising over this piece for ages... finally done! First sort of Australiana thing I've done. But I like it :) I have more exhibition news!! A gallery owner was at the opening of a gallery where I have a few pieces and she is interested in me exhibiting in a textile exhibition in October! October is going to be a busy month. Here is the preliminary layout for the commission I am working on. The photo just doesn't do the colours justice. I love working with this colour and I had a lot of fibres to choose from when selecting what to include.
Don't think it will take me long to put it all together....I just have to not be too precious. I will often deliberate over things for ages, when the result isn't necessarily any better, just more considered. sometimes at the expense of spontaneity. I have also decided on a title for my solo exhibition. 'Metamorphica'. So it is not quite metamorphosis - but stitchety grub, could you e-mail me your address and then I will send you a small thank you in the mail. Having looked up some definitions I feel that it fits my concept so well. Thanks for the help!
